MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Good Cheer to all the readers of my blog!

I just want to thank you all for the time you have all taken to read and digest my blog! Anyway to celebrate Christmas! I decided to quote from one of the BEST Christmas movies( as I have taken the time to watch it twice in a week) - "How the Grinch stole Christmas"

“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!”

"Don't forget the Grinch. I know he's mean and hairy and smelly. His hands might be cold and clammy, but I think he's actually kinda... sweet."
"Dr.Seuss, How the Grinch stole Christmas"

Remember those who are less fortunate during this period!

December

Hello happy new month!!
2013 is almost over how quick did that go!
This month features my latest poem that actually talks about 'loving yourself' as women how often do we hear this from men and our friends?
It's up to interpretation as I am only presenting some ideas
But the inspiration of this poem came from two places:

 1. Recently I was told " love yourself else someone won't love you" as helpful and supportive that was - I realised it was just saying "men like confidence and women that love themselves" so it was almost a means to and end to be in a relationship! When we should love ourselves genuinely

2. Seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness all shall come with! -Look inside and realise that you women are above rubies and Gold and once you recognise and love yourself thouroughly people you never expected will come into your life

However , if you do not agree with the reasons above THAT is perfectly fine! A friend recently disagreed with my interpretation and that too made me think😘
.....
Thank you to all the readers of my blog
And all my super super super confident friends ❤️

Love yourself

So easy to say
Thinking about this morning, noon and day
It's becoming stressful
For goodness sake I'm full
Tired of the motivational speaker
Doesn't make me stronger just weaker
They can tell you to love
And rise above
The heck you mean
Please tell me this is a dream
Tired of the advice
Telling me to know my price
Why do I need to love myself ?
Especially to herself
Will she be left on the shelf?
What about himself?
Or let's make it oneself
Tell me of the benefits
Not the fact she'll finish -
Last
Before her time has past.

November Love

Hello November bunnies! This AMAZING poem is by the wonderful and oh so beautiful Bisi! Her poem from my perspective illustrates the frustration of society's take on a "good" typical female! she believes that society need to stop this basic and suppressive view on women and start thinking outside the box!!
My number one favourite stanza was

"You see, primary socialisation and the cultivation of this civilisation

have led to the formulation of this good girl identification that’s caused my frustration."

What's yours?

Frustrations of a Good Girl (Part 1) - Bisi Akindayini

Hello, I am the good girl!
What does this mean? You may ask.
Well that’s exactly what I am about to unmask.

Loyal. Charismatic. Funny. Beauty.
Intelligent and Independent.
I clean. I care. I even cook.
That’s a pretty alright look, which many people tend to overlook, but without question…
Compulsory I undertook.

You see, primary socialisation and the cultivation of this civilisation
have led to the formulation of this good girl identification that’s caused my frustration.

Frustration? Yes frustration!!
It’s because this specification, is a total violation,
that needs elimination due to society’s reformation.

Like for-real NO FORNICATION?
That practically eliminates the entire congregation

Clockworks

Her mind is a clock - chiming at the brink of beauty
The clogs pulling her from side to side
The hour hand close -
Slow but steady
Not quite there-
Yes the minute prevails
She lags behind
But She'll never pass the hour
Society
She tries her best
Block out the numbers circulating her
Opinions
Tick tock
Silence

Plus size

Plus, Plus and Plus again
The female body now Maths??
All this Adding – Multiplying
All this surplus knowledge to associate with FAT
Yes I said the forbidden word.
Gasp

Extra fabric? Bigger Sewing machine?
New Factory?
Extra Large sketch pad?
Or is it a different pencil they use?

Illusion dresses
Dark colours –
Flared jeans to balance that upper thigh
Capped sleeves

The usual wardrobe of a plus size queen

Just Talking... Read x

Thank you all for supporting me in my poetic journey!
Portrait of  a poet was not my original decision but after some thinking i realised that this was the perfect name

As my poems do illustrate different moments and events of my life.
Some are long winded or very emotional. I.E. " Why is love so complicated?"
or there is the occasional vengeful poem "Unfinished " under the title 'Hard Times'

Moreover, Some of them are just random thoughts about self image and esteem which a few women (most) struggle with ie "Body" and "Your eyes" (won 1st place)

Finally, portrait of a poet is my new baby which I hope to develop and it can only happen with people reading and feed backing their thoughts

Hard Times

Is it because I told you
After all we've been through

Took me for a fool
Did I ever use you as a tool?

Thank you ever so much
Not a look, glance or even a touch

Good girls gone bad
You won't make me mad

I felt as if I had no status - empty - desolate
But I'm not desperate
Nah not for you

Or am I missing something
Since I'm nothing

Is it your brother let me keep that silent
Only you and I know fuck you and your talent

Shying away from the truth - my fault
Yet you still shut me out like a vault

Its calm and no resentment
Its all entertainment

Wish you nothing but the best - adele
But I have more to tell

What happened to the laughs and hats
And your dead chats

Almost lost a friend
I haven't even come to the end

This is my therapy
Couples
Young: Tall Blondes with Action Mans
Curvy sistas with Handsome Brothers
I’m talking usher
Short stout males with leggy females
Teenagers : Awkward kissing and unfamiliar fumbling

Middle Aged: They have kids – around 5+
Bland hair and bad teeth
Plus a beer belly- But they still see the beauty within
Whats the point of loving again
When number 1 is over here?

Old:Totally grey – silver foxes that mirror TCM
Sitting in  the park with shopping trollys
Looking into each others fading eyes
Been through so much – a life sentence
Why change now?

Find the one that loves you unconditionally…

Award winning poem ( 1st place in college) not exactly Duffy ' Your Eyes'

Kinky Twist, Single Plaits
Braids silky or  matte.
Dark or Light
A midnight hue or chocolate delight
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder…

Thick, fat and plump
Looking like a hefalump
Thin as a rake
Easy to break
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder…

Hourglass, apple or pear
Why care?
Do you?
Do you prefer bamboo?
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder…

Is the grass embarrassed for being too green?
Elle have controlled you since you were thirteen.
Mum says I’m beautiful
That’s just painful
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Why is love so complicated?
Its always the plain ones that wish
for Efron or Denzel
counting couples in the park
Until Dark, this is what it has come to

Why is love so complicated?
Love even has names
Unrequited – Forbidden – platonic
Then there’s me no boyfriend or even a kiss

Why is love so complicated?
Thinking about the person when you’re just an option to them
Tall, dark and handsome – Pale, short and plain
Pay attention to me
They say good things come to those who wait
I have waited enough; love.

Why is love so complicated?
And shallow – see past the size 16
And Natural hair
I have a good heart
No, its about image

Why is love so complicated?
Going to bed whilst your pillow
Soaks in all the resentment of the one that doesn't care
They’re oblivious to the fact someone is writing this poem for them.

Body

BODY

One day its going good
Sexy- Curvy – finesse –unstoppable…
Naked.

Put the jeans on they don’t fit
The button struggles to fasten
Muffin tops becoming visible
Coats becoming Tighter
Sizes doubling into the danger zone. Evans

How about we all walk around naked?
